Cloud Gate Dance Theatre!!!!!!!!!!!

Wild Cursive22 May - 23 MayPresenter: Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of TaiwanVenue: Opera Theatre

“Dancing and calligraphy merged into a single art of motion… the glory of beauty itself.” New York Times

After sell-out performances around the world, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan returns to Australia for two nights only in the Opera Theatre.

Inspired by the art of calligraphy, internationally renowned choreographer, Lin Hwai-min, creates a beautiful blend of modern dance, tai chi and martial arts, as nineteen dancers evoke the rich aesthetic and vibrant energy of flowing ink.

“Stunning… Striking… Poetic.” New York Times

On a white stage, streams of rice paper cascade to the floor with black ink pouring from above, seeping through the paper. The ink moves and spreads in abstract patterns true to the spirit of Kuang Chao, or “wild calligraphy” - considered the pinnacle in Chinese cursive aesthetics and the cultural foundation of Chinese art. The dancers’ serene and liquid movements echo the meandering and serpentine lines in an exquisite masterpiece of motion.

“No company in the world dances like Cloud Gate.” Dance Europe
